When you order an appraisal, you want to make sure the appraiser is qualified to perform that service. Real property appraisers must be licensed or certified by the state in which they work. To see the specific requirements for any state click here.

You can check out our official current status with the Appraisal Subcommittee (ASC). The ASC's mission is to ensure that real estate appraisers, who perform appraisals in real estate transactions that could expose the United States government to financial loss, are sufficiently trained and tested to assure competency and independent judgment according to uniform high professional standards and ethics.
